    Blessing in the Struggle

Jacob is traveling back to his homeland. He’s about to meet up with his brother Esau who he stole the birthright from. Family conflict can add stress to us mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Jacob no doubt is feeling a ton of stress as he gets closer to coming face to face with his brother. In his stress Jacob prays back the promises God had made him. “I will make you prosper.” Genesis 32:9 In the midst of all the chaos Jacob might not be ‘feeling’ so prosperous but he boldly declares this promise in his prayer. Jacob sends gifts up ahead with messengers for his brother Esau in hopes…

    Walk

I ate my pre-run breakfast, hot tea, toast with peanut butter, one banana, and a small yogurt. It’s the morning of my first ever 5K Turkey Trot. I put on my running shorts, shirt and socks. Pulled on a long sleeve just in case it was going to be chilly. I laced up my running shoes. I had my arm pocket that would hold my phone, I made sure I had my earbuds so I could listen to a podcast. I grabbed gloves and my headband, the race was out at the lake, it could be windy. I announce; I’m off to trot. The boys of course give me weird…

    Salute

On this Veterans Day I am thinking about you and your service. I don’t know your story. But I am aware of your strength. I may not see all your scars. But I know that you are selfless. You have suffered with secrets and selected silence. May you know you are thanked, appreciated and loved sincerely.

    Keep It Simple

Hello! Welcome to the blog. A place to motivate, encourage and live out our lives together. I don’t know about you but this time of year is one of my favorites. We are coming into the holidays. Each month from now until the end of January there will be food, celebrations, family, friends, and football (the Super Bowl it’s really just a reason to put out a bunch of amazing snacky foods and where your sweatpants and enjoy the day; Team Hamblin calls is Snack Sunday). All the things. Now maybe all those things are not in your next few months. But I would probably guess a few of them…

    I’m not getting any younger

I have been in the first book of the Bible, Genesis, and reading the whole story about Sarah and Abraham. Sarah wanted a baby so bad. So bad that she took the whole timing of the issue into her own hands. Sarah wanted to rush the plan of God. She wanted it now. In her timing. One of her main cries to God was, I am not getting any younger. How about we just start out this week with a little transparency? I can so relate to Sarah. I want something so bad. The desire. The dream. I believe God placed it in my heart when He created me. But…

    Can we be at peace?

I’m sitting here before my laptop on this beautiful fall morning and I can see the yellows, reds, burgundy’s of all the changing leaves outside my window. Fall displayed in all its glory. I am sipping a chai tea, the laundry is going and I am waiting for the beep that alerts me to come get the warm dry clothes out and put the next load in. Life is good. Perfect no. Peaceful yes. There is an intent in my soul to focus on that which keeps me in a balanced and peaceful state of mind. Why? And really how is this possible? Am I aware of the world, the…

    When Your Yes Looks Different

Emotions can be triggered so easily. We can be sitting in a room full of people listening to a presentation. A call to action. Asked to join the movement. Invited to be a part of making a difference in our world. All of it being purposeful, right and good. But there needs to be a pause. A time to discern. Is this for me? Is this the thing that I am to be a part of? Is this what I am to allocate my time to? Does this fit into the will, plan, and purpose for my life? Pause, take the time to ask the questions, to reflect, to listen.…

    You get to choose!

I’m thinking about these two words today: Fear and Faith.   And how really we choose between the two each and every day. One will keep us in captivity. While the other will set our hearts, mind and souls to soar and go after living the best life. The life our Creator intended us to live. Fear paralyzes us. It makes us shortsighted. Fear causes us to focus on self. (Ouch!) When we are captive by fear we are focused on the past not the future. Fear keeps us from launching out. Fear says: “Don’t make a scene!” “What will other people think of you?” “God is not interested in…

    Napping

Welcome to the blog. I am glad you stopped in. Happy First Day of October! It’s beginning to look and feel Fall-ish here in SoCal. Trees are starting their color changes and our late evenings and early mornings have much cooler air. This past weekend was a 2 napper. Meaning I took a nap on Saturday and on Sunday. I call it ‘survival’ living in a household of all boys. No, really, to stay sane it’s one of my coping mechanisms. And the true joy of it is that The Engineer totally gets it and me and so he happily accommodates for naps! So I am aware that there are…

    Everyone to the table

This weekend I got to retreat in the hills. The scenery was beautiful. Meals weren’t all about the food, but rather the people that sat around the tables. The being together and talking about life. I came away having something sorted in my heart and mind. Let me start with the story. Jesus is walking with his disciples. It’s about time to have the Passover Meal, a time in which the Jews celebrate their liberation from Egypt. His disciples ask Him, “Where would you like to eat the Passover Meal?” Jesus prepared for this question answers pretty specifically, “go into the city, find the man carrying a jug of water…
